Emily Carr

Born in 1871, Canadian artist, Emily Carr, is known for her sweeping stylized pine tree paintings and landscapes that really evoke the power and spirit of the forests of Southwest Canada and Northwest United States. After studying art in the US and Europe she lived in Vancouver and Victoria, Canada. On several occasions she traveled North to First Nation Villages where she created artworks of totemic carvings and First Nations subjects. In the 1930 she also wrote a series of books based on her experiences in the First Nation Villages.
