    Interpretation of Cold Deck

    Jan 16, 2016 ·

Encaustic painting of the White House made of playing cards.
"Cold Deck" 2013, Encaustic, oil paint and paper collage on wood, 12 by 16 inches

Cold Deck is a card playing term that refers to a "stacked" deck which is secretly switched with the original deck of cards in play, to the benefit of the player or dealer making the switch. The term refers to the fact that the cards in the stacked deck are often colder to the touch than those of the original deck which is warmed from the players constantly touching the cards. Cold Deck is a small painting that I completed in 2013 which depicts the White House comprised of small playing cards, each one precariously balanced on another card.
