Leonard Peltier

Warriors on the Plains by Leonard Peltier

Leonard Peltier is more than just a Native American self-taught artist, he is also an activist, a humanitarian worker, and a writer. Remarkably, he has spent over 40 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Prosecutors and federal agents manufactured evidence against him and lied to the jury, a clear constitutional violation. Despite a lack of justice he continues to paint in prison. Peltier says “Painting is a way to examine the world in ways denied me by the United States justice system, a way to travel beyond the walls and bars of the penitentiary. Through my paints I can be with my People—in touch with my culture, tradition, and spirit.” He is 73. More information can be found at https://www.whoisleonardpeltier.info
