University of California, Irvine Acquires Paintings

I am thrilled to share that the University of California, Irvine has acquired three of my paintings. These works are slated to become part of the permanent collection in the Samueli College of Health Sciences.

Collaged with acrylic paint, charcoal, and hand-painted imaged transfers, these works, are currently featured in the exhibit Viral Integration at the University of California, Irvine, in the Health Sciences Building.

Painting created with collaged newspaper headlines, charcoal and hand colored image transfers on canvas by Sam Marroquin.

The exhibit is curated by UCI Artist-in-Residence elin o'Hara slavick. Viral Integration is on view from through December 21, 2024.

This new collection is a first for the Health Sciences Hall and includes regional and national artists who address health, science, integrated systems, community, and interconnection within their artwork.

Examining current events, the paintings from my Newscycles series, delve into the ways in which news is reported. We are subject to the constant and sophisticated manipulation of reality and the exclusion of these events by the news media. Using their power and influence, these agencies control whose voices are heard and the ways our stories are framed.

Through paint and collage, my compositions underscore the importance that deceptive information alters our understanding of the world around us.
