    Climate Change and Wildfires

    Oct 15, 2019 ·

Investigating climate change and links to wildfires around the world, I am working on these works in progress in my studio.

Recent changes in the climate cause warmer and dryer conditions which lead to a longer fire seasons and more fires. Lower humidity and a lack of moisture in trees shrubs and forest debris are increasing the numbers and severity of fires all over the globe.

Black and white paintings of houses in progress on a work table with small paintings of houses in background against wall.
Examining climate change and wild fires in works in progress

In the U.S. 1.2 million acres of forests have burned since 2016. Increases in these conflagrations are expected every year.

Continuing work on images of houses, I am creating a positive and negative mirror image of the same home in these two paintings.

I am interested in using the structure and architecture of the “house,” to examine our relationship to ourselves, each other, our houses and the natural world.

Many people can easily relate to the image of a house, wether in a good or bad way. This icon is simple to understand and when peeling back the layers of the house even more can be revealed.
