Washington State Artist Trust Selects Marroquin work for auction

    Feb 19, 2016 ·

The Washington State Artist Trust selected work by artist Sam Marroquin for its auction to benefit artists across the state. Among many other international and national artists, Marroquin's work will be auctioned on February 27 at the Seattle Center.

Abstract encaustic painting with paper collage.
"Space and Place; Vegetation" 2012, Encaustic and mixed media on wood, 30 by 17 inches

"Space and Place; Vegetation" (2012, encaustic and mixed media on wood, 30 x 17 inches) was selected for the Washington State Artist Trust Auction. This painting features collage material from an old atlas, magazines, and two "paper rings" from the inside of a 3.5 inch disk. The layers of wax are built up and blended with oil paint to create depth. By taking many despondent elements out of their original context and combining them together it creates an entirely new story. The visuals reference being in a certain place or time, travel, and geography, and hopefully even a bit of nostalgia.

The auction is coming up on February 27, 2016, in Seattle. Proceeds from the auction will go toward helping artists across the state.
